How can we use natural forces to generate electricity? During this hands-on Expanded Learning program, students investigate renewable and non-renewable energy sources while helping Inside the Outdoors solve a real-world challenge: determining whether wind or solar energy would be the best choice to power an off-the-grid nature center in Orange County. Students generate electricity using hand-crank generators, investigate Orange County weather patterns, and test wind turbines and solar panels while collecting and comparing data. They finish by using evidence from their investigations to recommend the renewable energy source that would work best for the nature center.
