Scientists of the Sewers: Crazy Colossal Clogs

Students investigate how fats, oils, grease, and non-biodegradable items can create massive sewer clogs known as fatbergs. Through hands-on activities, students explore Orange County’s sanitation system and use criteria and constraints to design solutions that help prevent clogs and protect local water systems.
Partner-Funded Program
Scientists of the Sewers: Crazy Colossal Clogs is offered at no cost to eligible Orange County schools through funding provided by the Orange County Sanitation District (OC San).
Funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority scheduling and funding will be given to schools located in Cypress, Santa Ana, Newport Beach, and Buena Park. Teachers must submit a grant application to be considered for the program. Submission of an application does not guarantee funding or program availability.
