How do parents help young animals survive? During this immersive field trip, students become wildlife scientists as they investigate the relationships between animal parents and their young. Through hands-on explorations, live animal encounters, and outdoor investigations, students discover patterns in how young animals resemble their parents and how different species care for their offspring in unique ways.
Field Investigations
During this two-hour field trip, first grade students will take part in the following investigations:
- Baby Animal Investigation: Listen to baby animal sounds and discover how young animals communicate their needs to their parents.
- Meet Live Animal Ambassadors: Meet a live snake and rat while comparing how different animal species care for—or don't care for—their young.
- Nature Detectives: Investigate animal tracks and compare bird nests to discover patterns in how young animals resemble their parents and how habitats support wildlife.
- Parent Behaviors: Explore how different animal parents provide food, protection, warmth, and shelter to help their offspring survive.
