Wonders of Water: Waterville’s Hazard Mitigation Challenge

Students become water professionals as they investigate how natural hazards can affect a community’s water resources. Working in teams, students develop a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan and evaluate possible solutions based on effectiveness, environmental impacts, cost, and community needs. Through this real-world challenge, students explore how water professionals plan for hazards and make decisions that help protect communities and their water resources.
Partner-Funded Program
Waterville’s Hazard Mitigation Challenge is offered at no cost to eligible schools, funded by the Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) and the Family of Orange County Water Providers.
Funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Teachers must submit a grant application to be considered for the program. Submission of an application does not guarantee funding or program availability.
