Ecosystem Extravaganza: Habitat Quest

Become a young ecologist during this exciting field trip to a local nature center or park! During this two-hour program, students meet a live bearded dragon, investigate what it needs to survive, and explore different habitats to determine which environment would make the best home. Along the way, students also discover what California poppies need to grow as they explore the connections between plants, animals, and healthy ecosystems.

Field Investigations

During the two-hour field trip, TK students will take part in the following investigations:

  • Meet the Dragon: Meet a live bearded dragon and investigate the physical features that help it survive.

  • Build a Dragon Home: Design and build a model habitat that provides everything a bearded dragon needs to live and thrive.

  • Habitat Hunt: Explore your field trip site and collect evidence to determine which habitat would make the best home for a bearded dragon.

  • Poppy Needs Investigation: Investigate what California poppies need to grow and identify the best location to plant them.
