Explore one of Orange County's last remaining wetlands! During this immersive field trip, students become field scientists as they investigate the diverse plants, birds, and wildlife that call Upper Newport Bay home. Through birding, plant investigations, and hands-on activities, students discover how wetlands support local and migratory species while exploring why protecting these unique habitats is essential for healthy ecosystems.

Field Investigations

  • Wetland Birding: Use binoculars and field guides to observe and classify birds while discovering how wetlands support both local and migratory species.
  • Wetland Discovery: Build a model of a wetland and participate in an interactive migration activity to explore how habitat loss affects wildlife.
  • Plant Investigation: Identify native plants, observe their physical features, and discover how they thrive in a wetland ecosystem.
